You're right. The entertainment world is one big circus..or rollercoaster ride...one day you're a big star, then a struggling solo artist in the U.S. and got secretly married....oops!..I mean...sigh...irrelevant! But..I just had to let it out. Gomenasai!
What I really mean is, the society you've described in the fic seemed to be homophobic. A scandal like what happened to Kame could be very destructive to his career. It's like nobody cares how good an actor you are, it all goes down the drain with just one scandal of him being gay.

Midori...well, I feel sorry for her. Bluntly speaking, she was used by Kame to divert the attention from Souji. Although, Kame did like her, he never really loved her, right? Or else, he wouldn't be cheating on her..and with men! It was a blow to her self-esteem. Hope she'll get her happy ending..but with someone else. Because Kame is for Jin. :)

And Jin..he's glad but jealous of Kame's parents' support for their son being gay. Complete opposite of his own parents who threw him out. And the hint of meeting the parents later. Wow! This is really serious, huh?

Yuuya knows! OMG, he knows! Was it that obvious? Yuuya is a bit creepy. Clever mind under the guise of innocence. Jin can learn from him. :))

This is one exhausting day. And to think this is just the beginning of the circus!:)

I can't imagine what Tomo's reaction would be if Jin tells him about boyfriend!Kame.

From what we've read and observed, we get the impression that the Japanese entertainment scene is pretty homophobic. It's okay if you're gay and not out, nobody asks, but if you're out, it looks like you can kiss serious parts goodbye. We'd like to think we're wrong in this impression but so far, everything we pick up here and there seems to confirm it.

Oh yes, Kame used Midori. He liked her, and he hoped he could love her... or maybe he even loved her a bit but as a friend; she just doesn't do anything for him sexually because he's not wired to appreciate women. For a while he hoped he could rewire himself with her help, that's all.

Hey, when Akame really get going, they get totally serious. :)

And Jin can SO learn from Yuuya! In fact, Jin realized he could learn from Yuuya very early on in this epic. Yuuya is one smart, streetwise little cookie. (But not creepy. He cares about Jin. And he lends him t-shirts. And he has a cute hamster!)

I keep thinking this whole thing with Kame losing his contracts is really appropriate considering recent news... I do hope he gets to keep the assassin though :( He was so happy about that one.

I love Hamaguchi in this chapter <3 Well, I love her all the time, but especially in this chapter! Look at that tagline, look! She's hilarious! But Kame... Poor Kame, he's all over the place. And to think Jin thought he wasn't nervous when he saw him on TV...

The little flashbacks to the talk with Midori were so painful to read -- which kind of took me by surprise because I'm not even all that invested in her?! But they were. All those questions, and Kame falling apart because he never meant to hurt her but he did anyway... and then:
"I don't think you get to be concerned about me," she pointed out, and then she stood there like the best thing he could do was to get out of her house, and her life, and so finally he did.
;____; #myheart #why And then there's Kame thinking about all his "rules"... Yeah, Kame. They were pretty dumb to begin with. But that's how the mind works, I guess. We find excuses for ourselves.

I really hated the press in this chapter. Kame having to do these things while he's far from okay. And this doesn't help. Ugh. Parasites. OTOH I love how you had everyone at the agency kind of... try to help in any way he could. That was nice. Not as bad as it could have been. I was really dreading Kame becoming a pariah within his own agency, I'm so glad that's not the case :'(

And then you have Jin's uninspired blow jobs. Making me smile. <33333

For a Hamaguchi fan, this was a good chapter. :) She's a scary, competent, intimidating lady.

We're happy that the Midori flashbacks hurt. They were meant to, because it's a shitty situation, and she deserved better, but Kame also deserved never to have been put in a position where he felt he had to marry to save his career, and now they're at the end of the road, and they started out liking each other. A lot. :(

Kame wanted his parents to know everything. He's managed to completely freak himself out with how he gets when he tries to keep secrets, so he's going to... avoid that, where possible. Admittedly just in practical terms, he'd also have had to invent a whole lot of stuff to explain how he cheated on Midori with a bunch of guys -- any plausible thing would probably have sounded nearly as bad. But, yeah. It's quite, quite eeek he has to tell them that and nothing short of what he deserves.

Would you believe we also once spent an afternoon speculating whether Kame and Midori could ever be friends again? It was tricky though. Give it 20 years, maybe... once Midori's had a chance to build up a life that makes her happy, and feels she's really over what Kame did to her, who knows. We know quite a bit of what happens with her but we haven't quite puzzled out the friendship question, and what form that could possibly take. :-/

Jin has become very good at handling Kame. Hard to believe that half a year previously he didn't know what to do with him at all!

As for Yuuya -- we figure Jin is... very very transparent when it comes to some things. *g* And Yuuya has an eye for things and a regrettable amount of life experience. He's been watching Jin even keeping Kame as a steady client with a bit of concern, really. *sigh*

Jin would actually love to move in with Kame! But, well, there's the previous experience of depending on somebody to keep himself above water, and 'keeping a roof over your head' is not a department where Jin's prone to take any risks whatsoever, sadly enough. It's not that he doesn't trust Kame, more an instinctive need to know that if he had to be okay by himself, he would be.

Yeah, things are happy for them now even though they're awful. Funny how that works. :)

Awwwwwwww! Poor Kame. At least he's got people on his side. And yay that the cooking drama is still going ahead even if he lost the suit company ad. The Midori stuff was hard to read but very understandable from her side of things, wanting to know everything. At least she's not going to cause a big fuss about everything (though I didn't think she would - as Kame says "she's nice").

My money for who's causing the scandal is now on Matsura (probably pissed off that Kame helped Morioka get the cooking drama role but not her). Do we ever find out for sure who's behind it????

The Jin stuff was good too - giving Kame the reassurance he needs, and making sure not to look like a whore - wasn't expecting Yuuya to be lending the shirt knowing where Jin is going though. I guess he can read Jin pretty well although I wonder what he really thinks is going on, he obviously still doesn't trust/like Kame.

Hamaguchi was quite scary but I suppose she needs to be since she has to take up preventive measures and damage control... And Midori is such a poor thing!~ She must have felt betrayed and yet I think she's such a lovely wife. Its true, Kame should not have married her and kept her as a friend instead. And Kame’s parents are just so nice and understanding and with everything that has happened he needs more people like them on his side. And I like how quick Akame are wanting to share their news to their friends. And finally Kame talks to Jin about seeking Koki for help with music, he couldn’t before. And despite all that chaos that is happening out there I am glad Akame get to spend some time with each other!~ See you next week and actually I am kind of glad that the total no. of chapters have increased. I want to know what happens but I don't really want it to end either... But did you write a whole new chapter or it just worked out that way when splitting the chapters?

The chapter count... we basically wrote two new half-chapters; we realised we had to split the chapters differently, and suddenly there was space (and in one case, a need) for scenes we didn't have before. The whole process is a bit TL;DR but yeah, we spent two weekends writing like mad. For people who like to plan things months in advance, it was ~exciting~ ;__;

I had read this last week, but coming here to look for the post for Our Story to comment on, I just noticed that there are only 6 chapters left to the end of Deep Water ;____; I can't believe it's gonna end soon! And that it's been almost a year since you guys started posting!!

You know what I really do appreciate about this story? That you can see the characters (esp. the main ones of course) grow. They actually develop, change in certain ways and help the progress of the story. There is nothing that’s worse than stories with characters that stay the same through the whole story and seem simply dull after some time.

It’s awesome how Kame deals with Hamaguchi now. Although I feel sorry because she is so mad at him. Which is understandable but it could have been worse, I think. At least she doesn’t seem like she wants to kick him out and give up on him. and Kame can finally be honest with her even though she’s not too pleased. But who in her position would be? It all comes back to her agency in the end after all. So it’s good to see Kame’s determination here.

Still, I feel so sorry for Midori. She totally didn’t deserve this actually. Hell, if it wasn’t for Akame, I’d slap Kame for cheating on her! And even though Kame was an asshole for cheating on her behind her back , I admire how fair he always treated her. How he always took care of her and tried to make everything perfect and nice. Not everyone would behave this way. It’s too bad she won’t really see this now. Or wouldn’t want to see this. But I hope there’ll be a time when she realizes that Kame wanted her to feel good and be happy and did like her in some way. Midori deserves to be happy in the future D:

Btw. it’s nice how you change between Kame/Hamaguchi conversation and Kame/Midori conversation. That adds a nice flow to the chapter and somehow underlines Kame’s feelings a bit better.

Funny to imagine Jin in Yuuyas shirt! But nice of him to help Jin out. Hope there’ll be a time when he actually overcomes everything and starts liking Kame D:
