Week 7 1/2: Sunday
It rains all day Sunday. Jin woke up at noon and thought it might be five in the morning, and now it's three, and he's still looking out into humid gloom. Whenever he thinks the rainy season is over, it tucks on a few extra days. He's not seeing the kids today. After yesterday's excitement they are catching up on homework, and the grannies are getting some undisturbed time with them. He's only got a couple more hours before box-time, anyway.
So he makes himself a big pot of tea and gets the guitar out. That's almost cosy and he could write a song about that, he thinks, not a love song, just a song about being content and letting the world go by outside.
Then he laughs. Maybe he's getting old.
He maps out a melody anyway, and fills it with chords, and here and there he has words, and there's a 'you' in there after all but a comfortable one, no raging passion with that damp drizzle going on outside.
Kame's ringtone is in a totally different key, and Jin's first word is fuck because that hurts his brain.
He quickly mutes the strings, then hunts around for his phone. Jacket pocket. "Yes," he says, "what now?"
"I need you to come with me to a meeting," Kame says. "I'll pick you up in an hour."
"A meeting?" Jin wonders briefly if Kame's breakdown has started. "What sort of meeting?"
"I need you come to the Only One office with me to tell Kimura what you know about Nakamaru's girl."
"What?" He hates when he's feeling slow, but... he's feeling pretty slow. "I already told you what I know. I sent you the picture!"
"I know. I need you to tell him anyway. He wouldn't believe me."
Kimura thinks I'm a cold son of a bitch. And Kame thinks going around with an unemployed ex-idol who pays his rent in creative ways is going to improve his credibility?
Amazingly, he manages not to say that out loud. "He doesn't have to like you, you have evidence."
"He'll think I have a hidden motive."
"You have a hidden motive."
"No, not hidden," Kame says, and Jin shivers, just a bit. "I'd take Nakamaru but I don't think he'll go the distance. You're the next best thing."
Well, wow. There's an endorsement. Jin's stock is on the rise.
"I'll pick you up in an hour," Kame says again. "Try the clean shirt, please."
"Wait!"
Kame actually stops, actually waits.
"I have work," Jin says. "I can't go anywhere in an hour, I need to get ready for my shift."
Kame waits longer.
"Sorry," Jin says.
"Can you cancel?" Kame asks next, calm as anything. "I'll pay you for the shift."
It stings. Jin doesn't know why, of course Kame would think that, it's twelve hours in a box, Kame pays that much for breakfast. "No, I can't. I have a responsibility."
"You're waving at truck drivers! I'm sure they can live without you for a night!"
"Listen, you asshole," Jin says, and he should probably hang up, just hang the fuck up. "That's my goddamn job and I'm not cancelling, and last time I checked you were the one having needs here."
At the other end, Kame is breathing. Jin wonders vaguely if Kame's ever tried meditation, for his stress levels. "All right, I'm sorry," Kame says eventually. "You should go to your job. Do you have time tomorrow? I'd really appreciate it."
"Yeah, whatever," Jin says. "I can do tomorrow."
"I'll be there at ten."
Jin wants to throw his head back and laugh.

Date: 2013-02-03 02:56 pm (UTC)good for Jin tho, bc i think he just gets his life back. well, something like that.
he needs to be strict and all.
but still, i guess Kame has special place in Jin's life somehow.
thanks for this chapter.
yeay, can't wait for their meeting tomorrow :p

Date: 2013-02-03 06:42 pm (UTC)Yes. :D Well, he didn't let him smoke that one time either, but this is the first time he's refusing to do something. :)
Sure, you can sometimes refuse special people too. Kame is always special. ♥
Thank you for commenting!

Date: 2013-02-03 03:49 pm (UTC)good for him, showing kame that he's not always the boss..
kame, you can't always get what you want..
so is it kimura whose the victim of the girl?or someone close to him?
thanks for the update!!!

Date: 2013-02-03 06:42 pm (UTC)About Kimura... you'll find out when Jin does: tomorrow! *g*

Date: 2013-02-03 03:54 pm (UTC)Too bad he's going to feel like shit the next day, talking to Kimura. Still, he's going to help, that's something. Kame should be glad! (And I'm sure he is.)

Date: 2013-02-03 06:42 pm (UTC)Hey, he already didn't let him smoke once. Jin has opinions. Kame will have to live with them.
So now I'm just assuming Nakamaru's girl may have done something to Kimura to mess everything up (make him/SMAP resign as Johnnies?), and I totally get that Kame wants to know. But then he'll just have to wait another day,
And so will you, because we aren't affirming or denying any rumours. :p

Date: 2013-02-03 04:20 pm (UTC)and no longer Rated18!Every time I hear Only One I can hear KT's Precious One playing in the background...
...taisetsu na Only One....
And Kame thinks going around with an unemployed ex-idol who pays his rent in creative ways is going to improve his credibility ignoring the paying his rent in creative ways, unless Kimura knows Jin's desperate for money and thinks Kame's paying him to make it all up, it's pretty believable. Jin's not involved in the business and generally doesn't have a stake in whatever happens (as evidenced in the fact he had no clue what was happening in the entertainment world 8 weeks ago).
But this does make Jin involved if he does speak to Kimura and that'll maybe put him back on
Julie'speople's radar and put him in the line of fire...though Jin's pretty safeunless she finds out his and Kame's secret bedroom activities and the fact that money is changing handsas all his dirty laundry has long been aired and scrutinised. It stings. Jin doesn't know why, ouch. Does it sting more because Kame's putting his needs ahead of Jin and thinks chucking money at the problem will make it OK...or because while Kame's usually a jerk abt Jin's circumstances, this is the first time in a long time that Jin's holding down a job (where he is respected by his colleagues) and it irks him that Kame doesn't seem to care that he is trying to clean up his act?
Jin wonders vaguely if Kame's ever tried meditation, for his stress levels Wouldn't work, Kame would probably get more stressed by the minute just thinking about sitting still and not working...all that time wasted when he could be planning/scheming/plotting/threatening/blackmailing/making money...
I'm sorry," Kame says eventually. "You should go to your job. Do you have time tomorrow? I'd really appreciate it. Yes Jin should laugh and celebrate, he made the great Kamenashi Kazuya apologise and re-schedule his busy, busy timetable and be polite about it!
Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow...can't wait to see a meeting where Kimura would prefer talking to Jin than Kame.

Date: 2013-02-03 06:43 pm (UTC)Every time I hear Only One I can hear KT's Precious One playing in the background...
That occurred to us a little bit too late. >_> We picked Only One because it's at the end of SMAP's most famous song, Sekai Ni Hitotsu Dake No Hana:
Number one ni naranakutemo ii
Motomoto tokubetsu na ONLY ONE
Jin's not involved in the business and generally doesn't have a stake in whatever happens
That is actually very true. But the way he dropped out of the entertainment world hasn't left people in the agency with a lot of respect for him either, so maybe it's half and half, with the credibility.
But this does make Jin involved if he does speak to Kimura and that'll maybe put him back on
Julie'speople's radar and put him in the line of fire..Also true. Well, if Julie finds out. >_>
A bit of both probably, and also the fact that Kame is treating Jin's job with such disdain. A whole complex of suckitude there, and Jin's not really sure which aspect makes him feel worst.
Kame would probably get more stressed by the minute just thinking about sitting still and not working.
There is that! *g*
Jin should laugh and celebrate, he made the great Kamenashi Kazuya apologise and re-schedule his busy, busy timetable and be polite about it!
A VICTORY! Isn't it nice to be needed. :DDD
We love watching you think through the implications and speculating! Thank you for this cool comment! ♥♥♥

(no subject)
Date: 2013-02-03 06:43 pm (UTC)Oh, Jin could probably cancel the shift, he could claim to be ill or something, but Jin doesn't want to. This is his JOB, and Kame has no right to interfere with it, and where does Kame even get off thinking that Jin's job is so unimportant even if it is? GRRRRRR. :)
Yep, war. Seriously.

Date: 2013-02-03 06:26 pm (UTC)there's a 'you' in there after all but a comfortable one, no raging passion with that damp drizzle going on outside.
awww, this whole music making scene is just so perfectly cozy and sweet. Jin and his songs. ♥ Of course, then there comes Jaws...
I wonder if Kame even realizes how entitled he acts. Then again, I think he's caught in that massive gloomy bubble of Lex Luthor and enemies and high stakes (and high stress) and hardly trusting anyone, so it's probably understandable it might not even occur to him there might be other important things, especially for a mostly unemployed gay (EDIT 2: lol, this was meant to be another word. ^^;;) working in the minimum pay sector. Jin's hurt reaction is just as understandable, and:
"Listen, you asshole," Jin says, and he should probably hang up, just hang the fuck up. "That's my goddamn job and I'm not cancelling, and last time I checked you were the one having needs here."
*APPLAUSE* YOU GO JIN, YOU GO!!!!
"All right, I'm sorry," Kame says eventually.
pssst... holy shit.... did I dream that or did he apologize? shhh, not so loud! I think the world might end if it hears...

Yeah. He probably doesn't think he's entitled, just logical. And the kind of life he's currently living doesn't lend itself well to empathy and modesty.
Shhhh. You read nothing, you heard nothing, and you were never here.

Date: 2013-02-03 07:09 pm (UTC)Jin's showing reluctance *__* he's showing Kame he's not the boss of them all !
I'm still wondering how you're going to end this story... is it even a love story ? only two weeks left after all... ma ma i'll wait and see.

Date: 2013-02-03 07:14 pm (UTC)And the whip. You get the whip too.
I'm still wondering how you're going to end this story...
Rocks fall, of course. And there are illegal heart transplants.
Wait and seeeeee. :D We hope you'll enjoy the rocks! (The heart is going to be kind of gory...)

Lovely update!

Absolutely! Sweet songs about a you he likes very much. #inapricklyway

Date: 2013-02-03 08:42 pm (UTC)first thot: "your not the boss of me!" [malcolm in the middle theme song?] .. as in, the typical brat slogan. only here, jin is being the adult and kame the brat. nice. really ^^.
am still feeling for nakamaru, left out in the dark. [why is maru becoming important to me? checks my akame pulse. hmm..probably just my inveterate 'support the marginalised and the underdog' thing..].
and i love the song moment. pot of tea and guitar. definite twinge of jealousy. i need to do that again after too long a break.. right. jin composing. the mood, the chance and he knows this. and it comes. the comfortable you. no cold pricklies here XDD. i hope kame gets to hear it one day.
have the feeling at the end jin laughs in disbelief - he got kame to listen. to take HIM - PERSON JIN - into account. and change his plans. yeay. NOT just the fucking machine. but normality. what most of us live. not like kame who inhabits stratospheres of unreality.. just a guy who needs to keep his job. that's jin, one. kame, nyet. side thot: kame is so fucked up with his non-functional people relating here - how are you ever going to get him to come back from his learned and reinforced crazee?
well ladies. this is nothing if not interesting. and kimura tomorrow. i'd call it the dance of the akaamers -your term solo?- keeping us all on our toes between updates. have a hot todday apiece. [got to keep the cold pricklies warm and healthy ^^].

Well, aaaaaaactually, what makes him laugh is... the whole way Kame is ignoring that he's got a 12 hour night shift now and isn't some master manipulator who'll want to go into a meeting three hours after he gets home from that. So yes, disbelief, but about Kame's utter cluelessness. Or lack of consideration. Hysterics.
kame is so fucked up with his non-functional people relating here - how are you ever going to get him to come back from his learned and reinforced crazee?
Hm, Jin will probably be instrumental. But it'll also help if he gets the current situation resolved to his satisfaction.
Akamerars? :) Not actually Solo's term, it appeared on twitter a while ago and kind of stuck. #cannottakecredit
Thank you for this comment! :)

Date: 2013-02-04 12:30 am (UTC)I've noticed Kame's being too needy these days. The stress must be really getting under his skin that it's almost like he needs Jin 24/7..which is good because I can't say no to AkaKame smut. Pervy reader here, sorry! (^__^)v
It stings. Jin doesn't know why, of course Kame would think that, it's twelve hours in a box, Kame pays that much for breakfast.
It's actually good that Jin chose his job at the parking lot instead of Kame. It must've really hurt Jin's pride that Kame thinks so little of his job. And Kame must have been quite surprised that Jin refused the easy money. Puts Kame in place, though. Jin's not that easy, he has responsibilities. Good for Jin.

Date: 2013-02-04 06:11 pm (UTC)Jin has something Kame needs very much right now... and we don't mean his body. >_>
It must've really hurt Jin's pride that Kame thinks so little of his job.
A little bit hurt, and mostly REALLY PISSED OFF. :D It felt good for him too that Kame actually relented. (Not counting the early morning meeting. >_>)

Jin telling Kame to fuck off because he has ~responsibilities~ = ♥

Date: 2013-02-24 06:45 pm (UTC)Somehow it’s a bit amusing how Jin always thinks that Kame is on the verge of breakdown. But maybe he just doesn’t know enough yet to be able to picture what really is going on behind closed curtains, even though Kame has already told him a lot, but well.
And Kame thinks going around with an unemployed ex-idol who pays his rent in creative ways is going to improve his credibility?
But the thing is that Kimura knows Jin and he knows that Jin doesn’t say what others want him to say and he also knows that Kame and Jin really aren’t best buddies anymore. So if Jin tells Kimura everything in person it is more credible than Kame telling Kimura “I heard from Akanishi that…”. (Well, okay, Kimura could think that Kame gave Jin money and that Jin was so desperate he really needed it, but then again he probably wouldn’t know about Jin’s money problems either and either way there is some evidence.)
But wow, Kame seems to be pretty eager and impatient about the whole thing when he even wants Jin to cancel for the day. (And he seems to think that it’s just about the money, when for Jin this job is about so much more.) Nice Jin is telling him off though. But I wouldn’t have expected differently from Jin because he still seems a bit annoyed that Kame got him to play a role in his very own games and that he makes Jin get in touch with stuff concerning the agency again. Jin didn’t really manage the clean cut between his old life and his new life yet. (And how could he when at least Kame plays that huge part in his new life.) And well he doesn’t manage to deny Kame’s requests completely.
But at least Kame admitted that he went a little over the top and even apologized. Guess not everyone gets that from him. >___>
(no subject)
Date: 2013-03-04 08:41 pm (UTC)He doesn't know enough and he knows that Kame is running himself ragged out there. And is acting weird sometimes. He worries.
But the thing is that Kimura knows Jin and he knows that Jin doesn’t say what others want him to say
Isn't it useful to have that sort of reputation sometimes. :D
Kamenashi apologies are hard to come by (except for the polite everyday ones). So yeah, he did realize that Jin's job means more to him than just money. Worlds clashing
