Week 9: Saturday (continued)

Jin's wide awake the next two hours, while Kame first sits, then starts to pace. He thinks about Julie dying and he thinks about his kids, and now and then he gets Kame more coffee or some water. When the sun is up, he tells Kame his shirt is too worn, and helps him pick out a dark tie for the new one.

The office comes with a tiny private bathroom, and Kame washes his face and his armpits; shaves. The caffeine's made his hands unsteady, and Jin helps him get in the eyedrops so he can look fresh and ready for anything.

It's seven when Kame's phone rings. Jin's not even surprised, and Kame certainly doesn't seem to be.

"Yes," he says, and, "Yes, keep it off for now. Will half an hour be all right?" He listens for a while, and finally says, "An hour then. I'll call."

He puts the phone down and for a moment he only looks tired.

"That was Fujiwara, he was with Johnny during the night," he says to Jin. "Johnny's awake. I'll call him when he's dressed and had some time to get with the world."

Of course that would be Kame's job too. It would be awful even without the added dose of guilt, Jin thinks.

Half an hour later the first staff members start to arrive. Kame's giving orders about security at the entrances and how to stop journalists pouncing on everybody who comes in. Now and then there's a phone call, and the constant mantra no comment.

Then suddenly everyone's gone. Kame sits back and lights an unsteady cigarette. "I have to call Johnny now," he says. "You could go take a shower, Naomi can tell you where they are."

"Guess I could," Jin says hesitantly. "Unless... I could shower later."

Kame takes a deep drag, holds the smoke and the thought. "No," he says in the end. "I'll do this on my own."

Jin gets it, and nods. It was his game. Now it's his call to make. When Jin turns at the door, Kame's got his phone in his hand, for the first time looking like he's waiting for courage.

Jin shakes off the shiver, closes the door quietly.

The shower room is a hell of a lot classier than they ever had in the old building. He stands under the stream for a good long time, tries to let the warm water wash some awakeness into him. His eyes sting as if he got soap into them. Damn all-nighters.

By the time he gets back to Kame's office, the smoke is thicker in the air. Kame is standing behind his desk giving instructions about Kanjani's comedy program to a couple of producers, and when they scurry out, he pushes a few newspaper editions towards Jin. "Here's what we have so far, if you want to read. I'll go talk to KITTY-KISS-ME now, they're on a program later. Will you be all right here?"

"I need to call my manager at the supermarket," Jin says. "Tell him I'm not coming in tonight. I…" He doesn't even know if he was supposed to give notice. "Tell him I quit." So much for Sara and his uniform. His brain is white knots and swirls, and Kame's getting what he wants.

"Do that," Kame nods, before moving on to the next thing.

So the morning picks up where the night ended. Kame's in and out of the office, sometimes followed by a herd, sometimes alone. The police are back to reviewing the security tapes, and Kame asks Jin to step out when he has a long talk with the lead detective. Koki is letting coffee go cold in the anteroom and he looks like he hasn't slept either.

"When did you get in?" Jin asks.

"Eight," Koki says, and then nothing, then he just looks confused.

Kame asks Jin to stay when he phones up Kimura-senpai, and when he hangs up and the deal still stands, SMAP is still coming back, he seems to fall together in that big, arrogant chair. For a moment he closes his eyes, his mouth twitching like it doesn't know what it wants to do.

"Okay," he says softly, sitting up straight again. "Okay, we are in business."

Jin takes a break around eleven. He tries to keep himself from drifting, to pay attention for anything he can do. But he can't take the bustle and the thickening smoke, the grey drone in his head anymore. He slips out when Kame is called to talk to the cops again, and he'd like to be outside. But outside means reporters, or the roof, which… no.

He ends up in a grey stairwell, and it echoes back when he laughs at himself.

It's cooler in here; not the cool of the aircon but of thick concrete. Just five minutes, and he won't fall asleep. Meisa's sent him e-mails.

"Hey," he says when he calls her.

"Jin! Have you heard about Julie Fujishima? It's all over the news!"

Jin laughs again, but stops himself quickly. "Yeah. I heard. Sorry I didn't call you earlier, I was kind of... I was busy."

"That's fine," Meisa says, but there's a question in her voice.

"We don't have to worry about that story now. I mean, you and me. Me. You know what I mean."

"Jin, what's going on?"

"Nothing," he says. "Nothing now. That article..." He's too tired to sort through what he can say and what not, but this is Meisa. It'll be okay. "I've been back in touch with Kame, that's how I got on people's radar. But we've… he's… it's safe now. I'll explain later. Tell me about the kids, what have they been up to yesterday? What are you guys doing today?"

He must have sounded a bit desperate, and after a moment, she just tells him. About his kids being clever and whiny and stubborn and funny and great, until there's color back in his head and nothing about people dying.

Then he's ready to go back. Kame's secretary barely nods at him anymore. That happened fast, Jin as part of the inventory. A young guy, a bit too beefy for his suit, steps out of Kame's office and gives Jin a curious look, but Jin nods at him and strolls inside.

Kame's not in. Someone's sitting in his chair anyway. Small, smaller than Kame. The lines on his face so deep they cast their own shadows.

"Johnny-san," Jin says.

Johnny notices him slowly. God, he's ancient. Entirely bald now, got more of those spots. His eyes narrow on Jin. "What do you want?"

"I was looking for..." What is he, in the scheme of things? What does Kame want here? "Kamenashi-kun."

"Well, he's working." Johnny takes a labored breath. The chair turns slowly towards the window but Jin can't see if Johnny is pushing it. "He's busy."

"Yes," Jin says. "I know. I'll wait." Then he gets it together. "My sincere condolences for your loss, sir." He feels like such a fucking hypocrite.

Johnny says nothing to that, just presses his thin lips together. Stares at Jin steadily, so piercing Jin feels it prickle. "Akanishi," he says. Nods to himself. "What are you doing here?"

Didn't they just clear that up?

"Waiting for Kamenashi."

Johnny chuckles. "Of course. Akakame." Stares at Jin again. "You were cuter then."

Doesn't Jin know it. "Can I get you anything, sir?" It's a stupid platitude. But what's Jin going to say? "Is there anything you need?"

Johnny breathes slowly again. "Do you work here?" he asks. "Can you bring KITTY-KISS-ME's Miyamoto to my office? I want to talk to him."

"I... I don't know, sir. I'll have to wait for Kame."

"Kamenashi," Johnny says. "He's cute, too. He'll go places. I know those things, you know. I've got an eye for it."

It makes Jin's hairs stand up.

His head whips around when the door opens. He'll take anybody but... it's Kame. Oh, thank you.

"Ah, Kazuya." Johnny's eyes have lit up. "I've been waiting for you. Akanishi's here."

"I know," Kame says smoothly. "I'm sorry I kept you waiting." He gives Jin a passing glance but says nothing.

"Oh, that's all right," Johnny says as Kame moves towards him. "I'm not in such a hurry."

"Did Fujiwara drive you over?" Kame asks, in a light voice so at odds with the crawling uneasiness Jin is feeling.

"Yes," Johnny nods. "One of them drove me, anyway."

"And he brought you to my office?" Kame drops to his haunches in front of Johnny and smiles, fixes Johnny's tie.

"Yes. I was waiting for you." Johnny reaches out and his thin fingers skim Kame's cheek, push back his hair. "And here you are."

"Yes," Kame says, smile unwavering. "That's good, that's perfect."

Johnny nods, seems pleased with that.

"Have you had breakfast?"

"A little bit," Johnny says. His hand sinks down, wrapping around the arm of the chair. Jin's thinking of claws. "I'm not very hungry."

"I understand that," Kame says. "It's a difficult time."

Johnny nods again. "When is the funeral?" His voice is much quieter; broken.

"Wednesday, maybe Thursday," Kame says. He stands, and says, more for Jin, "The police are ready to declare it a suicide."

Good.

"You deal with the press, Kazuya. I don't want to see them."

Kame nods. "I'll do that. And afterwards, we need to think about protecting the company from the confusion caused by this sad loss. Julie was a very strong manager."

"Yes," Johnny says vaguely. "Yes, we'll have to... structure things."

Kame nods. "We will," he says. "Let me worry about that."

Johnny looks around as if he doesn't remember how he got here. It's a sinking feeling when Jin realizes that that may just be the case.

"I have some… work." Johnny waves a hand. "I wish to go to my office for a while."

"Of course," Kame says. "I'll have some tea brought for you there."

"And KITTY-KISS-ME's Miyamoto," Johnny says. "I like him. I want to talk to him. In my office."

Something shadowed and closed flickers over Kame's face. "Of course," he says, smile coming back. "I'll have him sent up as soon as he comes back from filming."

Kame helps Johnny stand. It takes him a moment to find his balance. Then he walks, slowly but without wavering.

"It's you," Johnny says when he's in front of Jin.

"Yes," Jin says. God, his voice. "Akanishi."

"You've changed your hair. I don't think I like it that way, it's not cool. I'll have a word with your manager."

"Sorry," Jin says, and looks down.

"Jin, will you get the door, please?" Kame says, friendly as cupcakes, and Jin starts, shit, of course.

"Sorry," he says again. "Sure." He opens the door and makes room for Johnny and feels shakier than the old man on his old skinny legs.

Johnny stops at the door and puts a wrinkled hand on Jin's arm. "You're a good boy," he says with a smile, and he almost looks like he always did, eternally old, eternally strong. "I like you." Then he shuffles through the door, leaving Jin standing there with a shudder crawling down his back.

"That's what it's like," Kame says evenly. "Go sit down. I'll have someone bring you tea too."

"Are you…" Jin swallows dry. "You're not really going to send…"

The look Kame shoots him makes him flinch. But then Kame's face softens. "The one advantage to the state he's in." He walks up to Jin and turns him, away from staring at the door. "He won't remember he asked."

*~*~*

The day goes on forever. Kame meets with Arashi at some point and Jin finds himself eyed with suspicion again. He sees Junno, too, which is weird, and Ueda, who says he wants to speak to Kame alone. There are long meetings with lawyers. Jin sticks around because Kame wants him there, but he's got nothing to do. He's starting to feel like the office mascot. An increasingly tired one.

By six, he's starting to go cross-eyed. Kame is wearing his third fresh shirt of the day, after having somebody stop at Matsuya with instructions. Jin got a new one too, and it actually made him feel half-alive again for half an hour. That was around three.

The grey of the office is merging with the grey in Jin's brain and the white noise in his ears. He's so used to the phone ringing that it doesn't even give him an adrenaline jolt any more. Kame's voice is deep and quiet and the couch is a familiar smell now...

"Jin."

"Hm?" He blinks up.

"I said that's it. We're finished for today. We're going home."

"Okay," Jin says, sitting up. His neck hurts. His eyes hurt. "Where are we going?"

"Car park." Kame has his suit jacket back on and is carrying a briefcase. Jin thinks he looks old, but then the thought of going home overpowers everything.

"Right."

He follows Kame, close. He could get lost in here, this new building. Lost and then he'd starve. Or drown in coffee. But Kame will know where he's going.

"Your seatbelt," Kame says when Jin's sitting in the car, and yeah. Seatbelts. Important. Like brushing your teeth.

It's easy when he can just do as Kame says. The car comes on smoothly, like a warm hug.

"You okay?" Kame asks as they pull up the ramp, and it reminds Jin that Kame's been awake for two days straight, too, and he hasn't been napping on any sofas, and now he's driving.

"Fine," he says. "Just sleepy." They drive past the camped-out paparazzi and all he can think is that they probably got to take it in shifts.

"So sleep," Kame says.

"I think I should keep you entertained while I'm here," Jin says. "You're tired too."

"And I say you should sleep," Kame says. "I'm fine. I drive all the time."

Not after this, Jin thinks. But Kame says he should sleep. It's enough, pulling at him like the smooth flow of the car, the weight on his eyelids.

Just a little. Just until he's home.

"Jin. Wake up, we're here."

It's dark. Really dark. Except for a bright light on the concrete wall a few meters away. Another car park.

"Did you drive back?" Jin shakes his head and tries to clear the fog. "Where are we?"

"My apartment building." Kame opens the door and there's a draft of air. "Come on."

Jin doesn't argue. Doesn't even ask. There'll be an apartment and a bed and no idols or press or endlessly ringing phones, and that's all he needs.

Kame inputs some long number into a keypad and the first door slides open. There's a lobby with shiny marble and two elevators at the end. They are swept to the seventh floor, noiseless and fast, and then it's a short corridor and another door with another keypad, and then a smell of cold smoke and cool air, and a carpet so soft that Jin wants to lie down on it and sleep. Kame's apartment.

A subtle light comes on. "Here we are," Kame says. "You can have the couch. I've got blankets."

The couch is roughly as big as Jin's apartment. "Okay." He sits down on it and it gives cozily and he doesn't know if he'll ever get up again.

"Are you hungry? Do you need anything else?"

"I don't know," Jin says. Kame's apartment is large, with daunting furniture, expanding chrome and white and black. There's a few modern paintings and some dark artsy sculptures, and not much else. If Kame possesses books or CDs they are behind cupboard doors. The only indication that somebody lives here is a notebook on the dining table, and an ashtray with two stubbed-out cigarettes next to it. Oh, and a pen. Let's not forget the pen, Jin thinks. "Do you even have food in here?" he can't help asking.

"I have a housekeeper," Kame says. Of course he would.

It's an open, American-style kitchen. Nice if you have the space. Black tiles and steel panels. Kame's rattling around, and Jin makes a half-assed effort to stand up. "Should I do anything?"

"No," Kame says. No. Fits.

Jin takes a deep breath, waits. Tries to see Kame in this apartment. Slick and cold, is that what Kame is trying to be? One of the sculptures is a man's outline. Half a body pushing out of black granite, a katana in his hand. It's dark and sensual and proud.

Kame's in front of him so suddenly that Jin jerks. There's a plate with a fork and steaming little pancake. It smells of butter and maple syrup. "You just made a pancake?"

"It was frozen," Kame says. "I stuck it in the toaster. Don't get it on the couch."

Kame knows just what is perfect. Jin doesn't ask any more questions, just gobbles up this piece of sugary heaven while Kame lights a cigarette and pulls up a chair.

"I'll drive you home tomorrow," he says. "You'd be bored at the company and I have to do a few things. It'll take a few days to sort out your contract. But I'll call you."

Back in the box, waiting. Stuck in pause.

"Don't argue with me."

He doesn't. Kame's known what's needed all this time. He licks up the maple syrup from the fork. Mops up the last drops of butter with the last crumbs of pancake. The sugar didn't wake him up, just made him content and even sleepier.

Kame brings him a pillow and duvet, spreads a sheet on the couch. It feels silky and cool and entirely perfect. He gets a toothbrush, fresh boxers, and a washed-out Giants t-shirt which is reassuring in a way he never expected it to be.

Kame is still dressed, with the start of stubble on his face and his eyes so small they're disappearing.

"Thank you," Jin says, not sure for what, but it feels right to say.

"Go to sleep," Kame says, the duvet coming up to Jin's chin, cool fingers in his hair, and Jin figures he's been doing as told for the last two days, he's not going to stop now.

and a carpet so soft that Jin wants to lie down on it and sleep.

I just love this feeling!

The Johnny part. for a moment I have a thought that he actually understands what is going on here, but after it was clear that he doesn't.

So now it's time to Kame for being on charge of everything, rule and spread the power to other bands. I was thinking about this moment with kame being on charge today, I often after reading this fic just think about different stuff, calculating and just being crazy over heroes from fic XD

So I was thinking that it perfectly makes sense, that it was exactly Kame near Johnny, Kame who was strong enough to opposite himself to another force. I'm not biased, not at all.

I just think that he has all qualities for a leader, not only being dedicated and acting trying to find the best in situation, but he is a person who know the rules and who can fight back, sometimes maybe over his pride, sometimes over limits, crossing some borders.

I just think he is a person who can balance and suvive in different situation, trying to find the right way for him. and he is a strong person, almost iron.

Just look how bossy he looks while shawing and glaring around <3 <3 <3 <3

It's easy when he can just do as Kame says.

thinking about this part of the story and this side of their relationships, I think it's very much like Jin, like Jin is in my head I mean. For me he seems like a person who even if he tries to act cocky or talk about his way or his pace, he looks like a person who needs someone to drive him, to show him what to do and how. Maybe not so openly and bluntly like Kame, but still. I think that Jin is very emotional person, who very easy fall under the influence of someone near him.

That's not a bad or good side, just there are people who are knowing where to go and make a step and another people who are moslty following.

and when your life was crushed and burtnt in all ways, like social and emotional, you will be tired.

With this long and absolutely full of my inner thought comment, I want to say that I love this Akame <3

I must confess, that when i started reading first chapter I was little bit confused, wondering how you will make me belive in that kind of situation. I believe in it and it touches me a lot. this story and this canon settings.

Also now I'm so curious to know how will Kame look in 36. <3

Thank you a lot for this wonderful update <3

You like sleeping on carpets? >_>

i remeber the time, when I came home so exhausted, that I was lying on a carpet, because it's so fluffy and warm, until my mom told me to stop being stupid and change my clothes and stop sleeping on the carpet >_> this is sooo fluffy <3 <3

If it's the right person?

are you like reading my thought? I didn't wrote it here, but that was exactly ehat I have in my mind. and yes, this moment when everything has changed, it is fascinating. I think that was mostly Kame who changed his attitude toward Jin. Even in his old interview, he said that he will let Jin win, just because this is Jin. But at some point something has changed, maybe they just grow up.

to clarify above? was pretty anaesthetised by exhaustion last night after a marathon day :/ something had to give, and i guess it was my brain sorting skillz.. ha.

-- top para is for #33

-- first edit is for #35 [hopefully you have found #34 in right place!]

more #35 thots:
still love mama!kame. as tenderly [ha] as s/he loves jin. i maintain oreore is rl. we are all of many parts, lol.

and, how much these two need each other. lovely slice of life - hard to be in a relationship where the other does not, actually, need you. however that's acknowledged, verbalised. that element of two individuals choosing dependance = important. why trust is so crucial, as you make yourself vulnerable. as does the other. and here, these two have 'burned the stages' [bruler les e'tapes - sorry i can't find adequate english], so fast [all their unsaid history?] and so crazily, [but it worked - hey, this is akame] to get there. again, pace. and allowing for your wanting a harder push/sell.

and johnny? i think of him as little as possible. i hardly allowed that on my radar. dementia tho? spot on. it's the point, hey. and why it's so hard for others to deal with sufferers in the early stages. don't contradict whatever. let it go. oh, but you understand kame's watchdogs. he knows not what he says - now. or did - then? as i said, am letting it go..

and julie? not much given to go on re feels. but am not understanding too much. will keep thinking, randomly, but surely, why? i'd have thot she'd have tried a few counterattacks, but she collapsed like a pack of cards [off with her head!]. you do make it clear this war has been ongoing tho.. and the public figure context - irrefutable [edit:irrefutable evidence] - japan - honour/shame. hmm. thinks.. [maybe she'll come back to haunt them all? 0.0]

right. wittering. am gone. i shall be so-o happy to read the end.

oh dear. that didn't read write. i have this 'pre-emtpive satisfaction' inhabiting me when i think on it i.e it will be good. and satisfying. like a chocolate to end a slow french meal --> caution: self-bricking in process.

checked out bruler les etapes as it annoyed me, especially after commenting on #35 ^^. -- to go too fast, with the idea of skipping [bruler=burning] a possibly essential part/order [etape=stage] of a process.. maybe 'cut corners' comes closest, but the french says best what i was thinking >.< :P edit: it's a softer, more complete thought.

Okay here we go, time to be a nice and well-behaved reader - commenting-time! :3

This Saturday has definitely been a very eventful one. But Kame seems to have it more or less sorted now, with smap coming back and the suicicde being a suicide. And dare I say, there was some sweetness in this one too^^ (well as sweet as these guys get).

Your Johnny freaks me out O___O When Jin got cold shivers I got them too. Scary, senile and far too interested in young boys. He's very beliveable though, not over the top - just plain scary.

And you've really made Jin's sleep-deprived mind come across well, now I'm sleepy too XDD Great job!

As always, I loved it, and I'm anxiously awaiting the next update! =^-^=

ALL THESE UPDATES. <333 BUT YES, finally, it's over, well mostly over, Jin did his part hee hee hee. But geez, normally I'd feel bad for Kame running around all over like a maniac without resting at all, but it seems like this is just his normal routine. Same shit, different day. XD People with this kind of work ethic amaze and frighten me at the same time. :O

About his kids being clever and whiny and stubborn and funny and great, until there's color back in his head and nothing about people dying.

Awww. <3 I generally like your descriptions of the inside of Jin's head being described as "gray" and hearing white noise, because I know exactly how that feels ahaha. Also, it's interesting how Kame's office and his apartment reflect his life perfectly. Plain, cold, perfect, empty. :( Hope Jin can do some nice redecorating. XD

"You've changed your hair. I don't think I like it that way, it's not cool. I'll have a word with your manager."

I laughed more at this that I should have, bless Johnny. Guy's really lost it, even him touching Kame's cheek made me twitch, I don't know how Kame deals. He's really creepy. O.e;;; I mean, it is great though that Kame takes care of him and prevents him from getting into trouble at least, it's not his fault he's like this. Kame's really such a hero in this and he doesn't seem to notice it at all. Soo many people would be negatively affected if he wasn't there. But man, when Johnny touched Jin on his way out and said he liked him, AHHHsjdbfsjkfb /SHUDDERS. But at least there was this too that made me laugh: "Jin, will you get the door, please?" Kame says, friendly as cupcakes FRIENDLY AS CUPCAKES. X'D

Lost and then he'd starve. Or drown in coffee. But Kame will know where he's going.

LOL this too, oh poor Jin, what he goes through for Kame. :3 And yaay for Kame taking him to his fancy place and fancy couch and fancy little pancake akjsdhgjksagdka omgosh he is too much, all this Nice!Kame is so overwhelming lol! He keeps surprising me! :DD I must admit, I really really love these non-sex Akame moments they are the sweetest things, they're gonna give me diabetes. :'D

Another update? I'm feeling spoiled!

By the time he gets back to Kame's office, the smoke is thicker in the air. Kame really needs to cut back, I know it's a special occasion but still...Jin will have to exercise his powers of persuasion to get Kame onto the bandwagon!

"Tell him I'm not coming in tonight. I…" He doesn't even know if he was supposed to give notice. "Tell him I quit." So much for Sara and his uniform. That was quick. Even though Kame offered him a job, I thought Jin would wait a bit longer to quit so he'd still be working until the new job started. He was really proud of himself for proving himself at this job too...But music was always his dream, I guess, and sticking close to kame so he can make sure he takes care of himself is a plus!
Jin, don't worry about Sara, introduce her to KITTY-KISS-ME or their younger equivalent.

Koki is such a sweetie, sticking around for moral support even though he's tired and there's nothing much he can do. Junno - I wonder how he reacted to Jin being there or if he's still permanently friendly. Ueda - still mysterious and keeping us guessing. What does Ueda have to discuss privately with kame right now when there's so much else going on if ueda wasn't involved with either Kame or Julie?

He's cute, too. He'll go places. I know those things, you know. I've got an eye for it As creepy as Johnny-san is here, he's right abt this, he is amazingly good at spotting who will do well in the business years ahead of everyone else. I can almost feel Jin's horror that Johnny-san found Kame cute back when they were juniors and imagining what Johnny might have done to Kame. Johnny touching Kame's cheek only strengthens this feeling...and Kame, after all this stress and he's still smiling at Johnny and taking care of him. It's very sweet actually, that Kame's still giving Johnny-san that illusion of power, that Johnny-san is still calling the shots, instead of just throwing him in a secure care home of some kind, Kame's chosen the more difficult route of spending resources and time in humouring Johnny. Maybe because Johnny had a better grip on himself then and didn't actually do anything to Kame to scar him?

Johnny looks around as if he doesn't remember how he got here. It's a sinking feeling when Jin realizes that that may just be the case Johnny will never be the kind grandfather figure but I completely get Jin's feelings here. Johnny-san dominated the Jpop market and his decisions made or broke people's careers, Jin's included and that was Jin's last impression of Johnny, and now, suddenly, that all-powerful figure is gone. Definitely a shock.

He's starting to feel like the office mascot More like Kame's private mascot, and he's not really trying to get Kame to worker harder. Jin's more like the prize/incentive for Kame to get this all done so they can leave...

We're finished for today. We're going home - I love how naturally this "we" comes to Kame.

Jin's sleep-deprived brain has some interesting thoughts - is this his natural state or is it the result of too much caffeine but nothing to do to work it off?

But Kame says he should sleep. It's enough this absolute trust Jin has in kame is heart warming! Kame making sure Jin was fed even though he's tired too gives me warm, fluffy feelings too - we went from Jin taking care of workaholic!Kame to exhausted!Kame taking care of tired!Jin. Perfect basis for a loving relationship. Kind of surprised Jin was offered the couch though...

Kame's depressingly bland office and apartment make it seem like he has no privacy even at home, like he can't afford to leave any indication of his likes/emotions out even in his own home (though clearly some personality does still exist, as exhibited by the Giants Tshirt Jin got to wear!).

Kame's come a long way from the first chapter. I don't know if this is the right word to describe the present Kame but he's almost become... softer. Towards Jin at least. He even brought him to his apartment, fed him some sugary treat and even let him sleep on the couch. Kame's far from the Lex Luthor!Kame Jin used to envision.(^__^)

After the whole madness, this chapter seemed to be mellower, calmer. Which is really great because all that tension with the company drama is just.. Stressful. XD

Thank you so very much for the update!

Hello dears,
this story is a masterpiece. Another one. It’s so captivating.
I’m only sorry I’m not commenting on each post, but I’ll do it for sure.
I really want to compliment you for this dark, intense, passionate and desperate story you created.
The two characters make you wish you could help them in some way, not only Jin, but Kame too. Perhaps more Kame. Jin has children, a wife from whom he is still receiving respect.
Kame really has nothing but this cold war he’s fighting. A ruthless fight with a ruthless woman, and in the end he’s the most merciless. He has to be, for the sake of the people whom are important for him. And I think it’s not the case that the mortal blow is given in order to protect the most important person for him.
The tragedy, the fear, the sensation he, they are walking on a thin, thin ice.
Kame brings in the story all the darkness.
Of course Jin’s life is a failure, at the beginning of the story, but he seems to me the one who hadn’t lost himself completely. He can afford to be more human, he can fail. So between the two, he has more to give, emotionally. He’s more free. That’s why, I feel, he was the one who reached for the other.
I know it’s Kame who’s coming back to Jin’s apartment every time, but it’s Jin who really makes the things the way they are. Because he’s warm, accommodating, he’s able to contain, to receive. Very feminine.
Also, this story made me able to really visualize the scene in front of my eyes. More than once, I felt the sensation of what you where describing. Every time Kame arrived to Jin’s apartment, you told us that outside it was warmer, or colder, or that Kame seemed fresh, or that his shirt was white, or that his hair were soft, or that he had a earring. And I visualized him, so clearly. I felt the same sensation Jin was feeling and I think this can happen only with really, really good stories.
We could only wait for Kame to arrive, every time. And luckily he always did.
Are you really sure this story will last 9 weeks and 1/2? Couldn’t you consider to write for a little more time about them? I don’t know.. for other 10 years, or so..? I think this time I’ll really feel a huge sense of loss when I’ll have to say goodbye to them.. sigh sigh sigh.. I’m so fond of them.
Thank you, ladies! AND I can’t wait to see you :DD

Eeeeeeeeeey, I didn't forget to look out for a continuation this time! I'm catching on!

I guess in this part it becomes clear how used Kame must be to all-nighters, or two-dayers or whatever those are called, and it also once again reminds Jin of how he's not in that world anymore and so out of it. But, well, I liked that difference.
The shaving and sort of washing up at the office, and the shirt changes throughout the day and the eye drops... Man, I thought it was all a bit creepy, how it could work, how there's all this stuff going on behind the scenes and the regular things like shaving etc. are done at the work place. I know there was no other option, but I still found it a bit creepy. Like, a creepy world to be in, at times.

Mm, Jin quitting his job... I'm not sure how I feel about it, just because I'm not sure why Jin's doing it. Is he just going along with Kame because Kame knows what's best, is he doing it because it'll be better money, for his kids, for all those things combined?

It's also a really nice sort of detail that talking to Meisa and listening to her talk about the kids is calming to Jin. That just says a lot, you know, and I like it a lot too.

Johnny's appearance surprised me even though it shouldn't have. And I of course completely forgot about the state he was in so when it dawned on me, I was kind of freaked out, too. Not as much as Jin, though, but then again I'm not in the story (which isn't even real, dear God), and I don't have the same 'bond' with Johnny as Jin. So. Jin was properly shocked/scar(r)ed. Oh, and when Johnny keeps asking for Miyamoto... I want to say 'ew' but it doesn't properly describe my shuddering disgust. And when Kame's look gets dark when the boy/guy is mentioned, is just... some sort of creepy giveaway as well, and as much as I like Kame's darker sides this one is not the good kind of dark.

And then Kame takes Jin to his place, while he could've gone to Jin's and dropped him off there. Well, it's likely Kame's place was closer, but that still doesn't mean it's the logical choice. 9 weeks ago Kame wouldn't have done that, I'm sure. So I'm very happy that he does it now, and that he warmed up a pancake for Jin! Yes, yes, I am very satisfied.

I shall patiently wait until the next chapter, and then maybe find out what exactly Jin's contract will entail! :D Since you're not telling me.

No, no, no, you do not need to apologize at all. I just went on assuming things were as usual and I didn't check if maybe they weren't, it's totally my fault! ;D Silly you!

Ah yes, I guess Kame's always been more the type to roll with it than Jin, huh.

Yeah, it's funny that thanks to Jin Kame's got, like, maximum power. Funny how things work out.

Tease all you want and insert all the creepiness you want! I wouldn't have it any other way! :D

The couch... really? <.< Damn boys!
"Go to sleep," Kame says, the duvet coming up to Jin's chin, cool fingers in his hair aww
Poor Kame. He must be so exhausted but he still looks after Jin, makes him something to eat and tucks him in T_T And of course didn't eat anything himself <.< Boy you'll get sick!

Johnny creeped the shit out of me. I can't help but wonder about "Kazuya"s and his history. Bet Jin wonders, too.

Please give my boys a happy ending, mkay? T_T They deserve it!

Must say, giving Jin a job actually makes for both a great alibi for past events and an excuse to keep him around ^^ #pleased And Jin, well, he gave in fast enough, didn't he? O.o Not sure what I was expecting. I wonder what he's thinking, why all this seems like a good idea to him... I guess he must really trust Kame.

That happened fast, Jin as part of the inventory.
Oh LOL!! I wonder what they are thinking too, Kame's staff. They must have some opinion, right? It's not like Kame adopts a random man a week? ^^;;

This Johnny gives me chills! To be honest, so does the real one, but this one is something else entirely. Really scary. Not in any obvious way but in an... well, of course there's everything Kame's told Jin about him and that's scary enough, but I think even without that this Johnny would give off a really weird vibe. No wonder Jin is so creeped out, he's legit terrifying, fragile old man and all O.o And still I found him hilarious at times xD You guys are genius!

...the office mascot...
Fu... fufufufufu. Akanishi the Infamous Lapdog. Maybe he can serve as a cat replacement in Kame's supervillain image! Kame can scratch behind his ears as he plans the next big strike! ^^

He follows Kame, close. He could get lost in here, this new building. Lost and then he'd starve. Or drown in coffee. But Kame will know where he's going.
I love that you've made him tired-silly. See the thing is I actually had no idea I liked Jin like that! Apparently I do. A lot O.o And I'm sure I've never read something like that outside your fiction, which is surprising actually because it's such a realistic detail! I remember you writing Kame like that before, and I thought it was horribly cute at the time too but I don't think I realised how unique it was? Most people do act a bit silly when they're tired and it's... really cute, and still you're the only ones I've seen successfully put that into writing :B

"My apartment building."
!!!!!!
I don't know how ridiculous I'm going to sound saying this, but this moment felt like a giant milestone to me. I'm not sure how much of that is due to me being a private person, or to this Kame having been a complete mystery of a stranger until some old woman fell off a roof and things got a bit rough but... that felt like a really relevant moment to me, and I was once again shocked by how they both managed to act like nothing out of the ordinary was going on. Like this was just... the logical thing to do? I realise it's pragmatic. But I still wasn't expecting to see Kame's apartment or Jin inside of it until maybe the epilogue! You just keep surprising me! I was also mildly amused by Jin sleeping on a couch, but that's altogether a different story ^^;;

And Jin's adorable. Seriously. Jin's thoughts about doing as he's told. So, so adorable. Not sure how I never realised how adorable that side of him was until now? *____*

No comment is complete until I mistype something >.>

Johnny's scary. Oh god, he gave me the creeps. You've been hinting that he's like that for a while now but... Still. It's pretty terrifying for some reason? :| I don't know. I got really creeped out.

And Kame's apartment... Sighhh. Well. He doesn't have to be so much on his toes anymore. Also, he has Jin to force him to take breaks and be a bit more... human. Maybe his lifestyle will improve.

I love how Jin acts more like Kame's PA. *g* But it's great he's still there. I guess that really helps Kame a lot. <3

...Kame's got his phone in his hand, for the first time looking like he's waiting for courage.
I don't know why it's such a relief to read this sentence. >___>;;

More yay for responsible good boy Jin who just accepts Kame's offer. And I'm sure he could always get a uniform from somewhere in case Sara insists on seeing Jin in one. *g* And who knows, maybe Kame has a uniform fetish as well?

It's great that SMAP still accept the deal. But I wouldn't have really thought they'd refuse now. When it was only about Julie being there from the start. Guess they also know that they're just better off in the company. Also they seem to trust Kame now which also is pretty relieving and very good for Kame.

And oh God, Johnny, That is a little creepy somehow, but it's also sad to see him that way. I wouldn't have imagined it was that bad with him. >____< I'm probably feeling as uneasy about the whole scene as Jin. And also I'm really relieved that Johnny held back while he was still aware of his surroundings. >__> (At least from what Kame told Jin about Johnny earlier it sounded as if Johnny held back back then.)

"The police are ready to declare it a suicide."
So that's sorted now? Or is that jus for the public, even though the truth is different? #stillconfused #becauseofsentenceinpreviouschapter #fuzzybrain

It's good that Kame has learned how to eal with Johnny and how to behave around him. Guess that wasn't easy at all.
Btw. how much does Johnny actually still have to say? Like do they still need his signature or approval for some things? Or will Kame be able to just freely decide about everything from now on?

I hope Ueda and Kame got things sorted out, now. >__>
I want to know what they talked about! #curious

Love that Kame took Jin home with him and then took care of him. Seems like it was a mixture of being responsible and not wanting to drive out to Jin's apartment, Kame's couch being more comfortable and Kame still wanting Jin around, mh?
I'm not feeling more comfortable about Kame's apartment than about his office. >>;; But on the other hand... why try pretend when he's at home alone? It's still sad and so unlike Kame. I hope Jin do something about his apartment as well.

If Kame possesses books or CDs they are behind cupboard doors.
Well, at least the CD-tower of horror is gone... >___>;;;

Kame should've let Jin sleep in his bed! That would've been cute! But it's not yet time for that, I suppose? ;___;

He must have sounded a bit desperate, and after a moment, she just tells him. About his kids being clever and whiny and stubborn and funny and great, until there's color back in his head and nothing about people dying.

I love it that Jin's kids cheer him up like this :33 ♥♥♥ And that Meisa knew that it was what Jin needed.

Poor Johnny D: I just feel sorry for him. D:

And I thought Kame would take Jin to his apartment this time when he said they're going home *___* Lovely, although Kame's apartment isn't that lovely, but JIN MIGHT CHANGE THAT IN THE FUTURE XDD ♥♥♥

Another two timer :D

It's one in the morning, but maybe this drives everyone in
The office is probably the only place of any kind of peace. I can imagine all reporters wanting a statement from whoever they gonna get on their phone first.

Jin keeps hearing his own name, in whispers, after they pass
Dead person outside on the ground and ghost Akanishi walking in the corridors. Very eery.

Don't go away, Jin hears and he nods
The only function Jin got there was to calm down Kame in the moments he's too much for himself. Like a charm.

At least Kame doesn't have to worry about an alibi.
Somewhere in between I got that it might be the case that the police is investigating if Kame murdered Julie. ._.

Kame's office is elegant, spare, and grey. Jin's shocked.
All those upcoming references to his empty life. I think you said that one several times in different ways. Often enough that I didn't miss it. XD

We all have an interest in what's going on with Kame-chan.
LOL!

We all have an interest in what's going on with Kame-chan.
More LOL!

Kame tilts his head once. There's a crack in his neck. "You're not telling me I should get some sleep." "No." Kame needs to be awake
Mutual understanding getting its fundament.

And the conclusions of the last few weeks, established dependencies between Kame and Jin.
Those were nice paragraphs settling it. ^^

When all of this is over, Jin's going to put up some bright red art in here, or a fucking Giants poster XDDDD

He must have sounded a bit desperate, and after a moment, she just tells him.
Jin keeping Kame sane and the kids bringing Jin back on track.

Johnny was very, very creepy. Well described! :D
oh god, Johnny calling him Kazuya. #shiver

He must have sounded a bit desperate, and after a moment, she just tells him.
Welcome future boss of JE.

He must have sounded a bit desperate, and after a moment, she just tells him.
now it's Jin with no energy to even try to talk back to Kame and good night~

Jin doesn't argue. Doesn't even ask. There'll be an apartment and a bed and no idols or press or endlessly ringing phones, and that's all he needs.
Luxury after such a long day(s)!

Jin doesn't argue. Doesn't even ask. There'll be an apartment and a bed and no idols or press or endlessly ringing phones, and that's all he needs.
Doesn't he need a lot? Yes, why shouldn't he have it. :D

He gets a toothbrush, fresh boxers, and a washed-out Giants t-shirt which is reassuring in a way he never expected it to be.
Giants! Yes, some original Kame left in him!

"Go to sleep," Kame says, the duvet coming up to Jin's chin, cool fingers in his hair, and Jin figures he's been doing as told for the last two days, he's not going to stop now.
Unexpected gentleness in the end. Not considering that they aren't sharing the bed yet, but the couch is on the safe side for sure. Just the gentleness here is hearth warming stuff. :D
