Curious how far he'll get with the masquerade^^

Date: 2011-05-21 05:35 pm (UTC)Creepy life is right. *sigh*
Thank you for the feedback, and sticking it out for... wow, over two months now! :-)

Date: 2011-05-19 12:09 pm (UTC)So Kame likes to sleep with male prostitutes but doesn't like it when he's seen as someone from the other side of the river? Ô.ò He just cares too much about what other people think of him... (unlike Jin!)
And: Does Midori know ?
Looking forward to the next chapter because I just love the way Kame acts when he is in the club: all superior, knowing he is a client prefered by many escorts (and then meeting Jin who pulls him back to earth :D)
Btw, I think I have seen a note for this story where you tell Kame's and Jin's background story but I can't find the link anymore...

Date: 2011-05-21 05:40 pm (UTC)Re Midori: what do you think? ;-)
We do hope you'll enjoy next week - you'll definitely get club, though next week will be Jin... But we're happy that you find Kame interacting with people there interesting, too!
Um, the note with the backgrounds is here (http://haikusociety.livejournal.com/7366.html), but do bear in mind the date it was posted on!! ;-)

Date: 2011-05-22 08:53 am (UTC)And yay for Kame-Jin interaction!! Only 4 more days to go

Date: 2011-05-23 08:11 pm (UTC)Hm, no, no Kame-Jin interaction yet, not this week... Sorry about that. But soon!

Date: 2011-05-20 02:54 am (UTC)There's a slight hint about an ex of Kame's. That will be interesting to know more about. It looks like neither Jin nor Kame had the best choice of boyfriends in the past.
Kame seems much more human in this chapter, when Jin isn't around. He feels like he has no control over his life and goes to the club in order to feel accepted and be in control of at least one aspect of his life. Great character descriptions here. I love how you described just how upset the article made Kame; subtle things like speeding and drifting off in the middle of conversations, constantly trying to read people's expressions and not freak out.
Very nice you two, and look at that I didn't even complain of how long I have to wait for the next... oops.
:]

Date: 2011-05-21 05:47 pm (UTC)In a word, yep. :-) We are glad you enjoyed it despite all the angstiness.
As for their boyfriends... I guess they'd both say 'it's complicated'. ;-)
We also appreciate the comments on the writing aspect. We don't want to quote you back helplessly, but those sorts of comments really make us happy! It sounds like we managed to create some atmosphere and that pleases us a lot.
Thank you so much for the feedback and encouragement! And we totally didn't hear you complain--- oops. :-)

Date: 2011-05-20 05:56 am (UTC)he'd like to play the would-be assassin of an Emperor Oh god, someone please make this happen in real life. *whimpers at mental image of Kame in period piece with a katana*
Another upside to staying at home more often. I see what you're doing there Kame, trying to convince yourself against going *somewhere* and seeking *someone* out. Poor Midori needs to get some. Hope she's having a steamy affair of her own on the side.
Souji. Ah, we have a name! I think I remember saying this before, but inhabiting Kame's mind must be exhausting. The poor thing's a nervous wreck and tries so so hard to be normal and calm,
which is probably why I forgive a lot of his weirdo creepiness. It's painful to see how he has to hide any relationship he seems to value, for fear of the tabloids discovering it and making accusations. I like how it's through his lens, so we're not sure if those articles are really that sly and mean or it's just Kame being paranoid and on guard. It's really telling how he refers to the real world as "outside" and I'm guessing Johnny's and by extension Jin are the "inside". Probably Jin is the closest to the real inside, since he's seen the freakiest Kame can be, with no mask or filter on.He'd thought it couldn't get any worse, that he couldn't get any more miserable, crying his eyes out over dumping his boyfriend. Turned out he was wrong about that. *glomps and pets him*
Kikuchi Rinko She's badass. I'd even see a romantic comedy for her. Especially if Kame was involved. One can dream right?
The Kame - Morioka dynamic is really interesting because I'm not sure if Kame is *that* repressed that he's not allowing himself to admit a stronger attraction there, or if it's just blown out of proportion in his mind because of the complications involving his work/scandal. Like, I wonder if both Jin and Morioka were compared on an even playing field, professions aside, who would Kame go for? *of course the Akame fangirl in me knows the answer, but it's interesting to think of the alternative in this 'verse* Not sure if I mentioned this before, but somehow mentally I cast Tamamori in Morioka's role.
Wow, lots of material to mull in this chapter. Love him or hate him, he's such a fascinating character.

Date: 2011-05-21 05:56 pm (UTC)Weeell, the assassin guy was actually a bit later than that and he tried to shoot him. Um. Sorry about that. We agreed that Kame in a with a katana would look awesome though; stay tuned for chapter... uh... 36 or something. ;-)
We agree Midori would totally be entitled to a steamy affair on the side. :-/
I think I remember saying this before, but inhabiting Kame's mind must be exhausting.
Kame's mind is a *zoo*. That's one of the main reasons we didn't split POVs for writing; it wouldn't have been healthy to be stuck in his mind for an entire epic.
YAY actress recognition!! We, um, actually had a bit of trouble giving him a well-known partner here because we wanted to avoid actresses with actual JE connections, like Toda Erika and Horikita Maki. And Kikuchi Rinko sounded pretty badass -- glad we got that right. ;-)
We love the comment on Morioka. Authorial confession: we kinda like him. And how Morioka would fare on an even playing field is an interesting one, because Kame has so many levels of repressed going on. He really doesn't consider himself attracted to Morioka, but if the 'even playing field' included Kame not policing his every thought when he's not in the club, we're not sure he wouldn't have had a different reaction.
We don't know who Tamamori is -- linky? :-) Because we're curious. And it's actually funny, now that we think about it... Morioka is the only one we *haven't* cast -- we cast most of the supporting players with somebody if only for the visual, even if they have different names. But Morioka... just kind of took hold without that. But now we want to know which dude you're picturing him as!

Date: 2011-05-21 08:51 pm (UTC)So I think the reason I cast Tamamori in the role of Morioka is because in the Gokusen movie (where Kame plays an assistant teacher) Tamamori plays a rebellious student. I think he's in Kis-My-Ft2 (or however that is spelled), but aside from that I know nothing about him. There's also a Shonen Club (when Kame performed Plastic Tears) that Kame played Kazuko opposite Tamamori. I haven't seen any of those episodes subtitled but it seriously amazes me how Kame can play such a convincing girl, down to tucking his hair behind his ear and adjusting his shawl.
Here are a bunch of screen caps and dl links for Tamamori in Gokusen and Kame on SC:

(mostly just Tamamori)

(not sure if the links work, but the Jr. Colosseum section where you see Kame in a shawl)
Hope that helps! :)

Date: 2011-05-23 08:10 pm (UTC)That Gokusen thing with Kame as assistant teacher... we'd already started writing this when he got that role, and we were all 'OMG nobody will believe us'. But then we decided it didn't matter. :-)

Date: 2011-05-20 07:40 am (UTC)Seems like Kame likes to complicate matters but it probably stems from the media scrutiny he faces? And I find it slightly heartbreaking for Kame because he mentions that "if he can only avoid that one escort, and how hard can it be? How hard can it be just to be… normal?" Seems like the complicated relationship Kame has with Jin is really bugging Kame. It bugs him enough to avoid returning to the only place he considers normal.. And just in general it feels like Kame is so guarded and restricted in his thoughts and relationships. *Hugs Kame*
And the lifestyle Kame has is really questionable. His relationship with the agency, does he even enjoy being an actor? I mean he seems to think its his duty and he avoids giving his real opinion. Now I am curious about how bad his previous paparazzi scandal with Souji was. Well, I am assuming it was bad, cause he questions why the paps haven't mentioned Souji yet. But poor Kame!, he's really beating himself up over it.
Midori is really too nice and seems like a good companion/Best friend almost for Kame. I hope she would continue to provide that semblance of normalcy for Kame though it seems like theirs is companionship out of convenience. While its comforting, its not enough for Kame.
Thanks for sharing this update!~ And I really enjoy the descriptions you provide for Kame and Jin individually. It kind of makes reading chapters of them together very amusing. lol xD I am guessing we will be having a club scene soon. How will it end up??? Will we get to see Ueda/Kame or Akame in the club??? Shall wait and find out!!:)

Date: 2011-05-21 06:07 pm (UTC)This is lovely feedback and we are restraining ourselves from quoting it all back and going yay yay yay! :-)
It's true that for Kame the club is pretty much the only safe place. We don't want to get too explainy, we have to get it there in the story or we're not doing a good job as authors, but, yeah, he's got some very bad experiences with the media. And you're right, he really doesn't *want* the complication with Jin, that's not what he goes there for.
As for the acting -- we think he genuinely likes being an actor. But sometimes, with all that's going on, he can... forget why he likes it. :-/
We're very happy that Midori comes across as nice and a good companion for Kame; it's just a shame that it's really not enough.
You will definitely get a club scene soon... and an Akame scene slightly less soon but still... within a reasonable timeframe. :-)
Thank you for this perceptive comment, it's great to see how things come across.

which have made them how they are today.
still loving this every week =)

Date: 2011-06-01 06:43 pm (UTC)Anyway, I think I know what Kame's problem here is. Like he is SO polite and nice and friendly ALL THE TIME. With everyone. Like he always has to watch his steps because omg someone could talk about him being into guys and his career would be ruined. And of course he doesn't want that because he's very self-conscious about his job =/ (which is of course good, usually, but he's overdoing it!!!) And that's why he takes it all out on Jin. His whole bad side, dominating and not nice and respectful, he has to blow off the steam somewhere.... and he does that behind closed doors... with Jin. While maybe in his daily life, others pull the strings and he can only dance to the beat, at the club HE can be the one who feels superior for a while? Like he has to control something, anything. But maybe I'm totally off with my hypothesis -______-' (and very bad at explaining too)
For the next chapter. I've read it but felt like there wasn't much news? =/ Maybe I was too sick to notice though.
Oh... and I kinda dislike Sho (in this) =/
Sorry for my crappy comment ;_______;
(no subject)
Date: 2011-06-01 07:09 pm (UTC)You are definitely right that Kame tries way too hard to control how he appears to others. Part of it is just normal - he likes to be liked, and his career is important to him, so yeah. But he's also been made really paranoid, poor little bunny. That's where the overdoing you noticed comes in. :-)
But before Jin came along, he didn't really take it out on Tatsuya, or Takuya, and he was quite happy like that, too. :-)
There wasn't much that drove the plot forward in the Jin chapter, you noticed that right (even though you were sick!). It's mostly setting up stuff, and filling in some background.
Aw, poor Sho. What has he done?
(no subject)
Date: 2011-06-01 09:26 pm (UTC)Well about Sho.... somehow it feels like he can't be trusted much but I dunno where that feeling comes from. And it feels like he's over-confident and fake. Like the way he leads his life having kids but still goes to the club. It feels... bad. At least Kame has certain doubts about his lifestyle and sometimes it seems like he almost feels guilty towards Midori (although I'm sure he really likes and appreciates her... as a person/friend). Sho seems kinda... calculative?
Actually I'm a bit surprised about Midori. She's so confident about her marriage and it seems like nothing in the world can upset her. Like, a lot of girls would want more attention from their bf/husbands but she's so cool with everything. But then, I'm glad for Kame because I think he needs someone relaxed like that. Although Kame is nice to her, it seems like Kame's not really "there" when they are together. Do they even sleep together? :/ (imagining it is kinda weird to be honest =/ and not because she's an OC...dunno)
thank you, still not recovered 100% (and Kame's AnAn scans yesterday gave me the rest xD) but I hope I'll be healthier soon. Looking forward to the update tomorrow! :D

Date: 2011-06-03 10:50 am (UTC)We find it especially interesting because... well, in theory, what Sho and what Kame do is really not that different? Sho is a bit further along, as he's older and already has kids. But on principle they're doing exactly the same -- married a woman as a beard and visit prostitutes to meet their 'real' needs. Yet Kame comes across as likeable, and Sho as 'calculating' -- and we kind of suspect it's because we get Kame's POV (and his unhappiness, sometimes) about it all, whereas with Sho you only get the facade. Yet we don't know if maybe inside he's just as much of a bunny as Kame, or whether he loves his kids deeply and feels terribly guilty. All in the POV. :-)
Kame and his wife do sleep together. Midori is actually attracted to him, and Kame even makes a point of sometimes initiating sex, so she doesn't feel rejected and like she always has to ask for it. (He's set himself a little alarm to remind himself every three weeks.)
... how's that for calculating? *g*
(And yeah, Midori is generally very relaxed, self-confident and not controlling. In a world where Kame was straight, they really would be a very good match. >.<-)
Kame's AnAn pics are deadly. We should count our blessings we're still breathing.

Date: 2011-06-03 01:30 pm (UTC)Honestly I think the truth is that, even though nothing in this fic is real and the character's personality is far from real too, I can't help but fill in certain "real" things anyway. Like the real Sho is so very different from Kazu. I don't dislike Sho Sakurai, he can be so funny! I can't explain it really. Real Kame is kinda more... sensitive? :P Your Kame is definitively not xDD Oh whatever. I think I'm just reeeeally biased xDD But I think your explanation about the POV makes sense and I'm sure he really likes his kids :) <3
The Kame x Midori background info is interesting! I think I understand their relationship much better now :) It's nice Kame actually cares about her not feeling rejected ;)
I remember the alarm on his phone! xDD Honestly I think that's absolutely hilarious xDD I feel like laughing a lot about this. And ok maybe that's calculating -____-' *sigh*
but I mean seriously, she gets to sleep with Kame...(no subject)
Date: 2011-06-04 02:56 pm (UTC)And hey, we're biased too! :-) You're in good company!
